It was lots of fun. Kira had a really great weekend - I have to brag....
She came in 2nd in the 200m and 3rd in the 100m breast strokes. The amazing part is that she dropped (decreased) her time by 10 seconds on the 200m - that would be like dropping your time by 10 seconds on a 200m run. She was seated first for the finals - the fastest qualifying time - but lost by .04 seconds. The thing that blew everyone's minds is that she swam 5 seconds faster in the finals than the preliminaries. The top three girls were swimming out of their minds and we're proud of all of them. Kira and Zoey also swam on relay teams. Kira's relay teams set two records that could last for years, the ones they broke were set in the mid 80's. The bad news is that the team Kira swims on has girls coming up next year that are faster than the team Kira was on so they may set a new record next year. The Fox name in the record books: 200m Medley Relay 400m Medley Relay
Kira in breast stroke form - amazes the heck out of me.
Here's Kira getting her second place medal:
Yet another swimming post - I think / hope I'll be doing this for a long time.
Oahu had a series of open ocean swims during the summer. The girls all swam at least one of the North Shore series. All the pictures you see of people surfing the huge waves in Hawaii are on the North Shore - in the winter.
All three girls swam the Cholo's Wiamea Bay 1.2 mile swim. Zoey came in third for her age group and Kira in 4th. Kyla's age group is actually the biggest and most competitive but she still finished in the top 10. Here's a picture of them before the start of the race - yes they have all gotten really big.
It's hard to show with pictures how far they really swam but this picture might give you an idea. That's a group of Spinner Dolphins jumping in the water with the swimmers behind them..... The girls said that the dolphins swam under them.
Kira did the Waikiki Open Water Swim - 2.6 miles. People come from all over the world to do this swim. Here she is at the start and than coming out of the water.
I can't believe we have gotten through another year of school!
Kyla "graduated" from Haha'ione Elementary School this year - it's a big deal here in Hawaii. They had each student come up and gave them diploma's followed by a party in the cafeteria. I can't believe I only have one child left in the school. I was talking to our principal at the graduation. She came to our school the same year we did. I think the school has changed as much as our children have over the last 5 years - a lot of hard work by the teachers, Staff, PTA and families of the school. The change has been all for the better.
This is Kyla's teacher Mr. Uale.
The proud parents and grad - Kyla and her friends:
We had our annual Mothers Day camping trip again this year. It was lots of fun as always. The kids and parents all had a great time. I can't believe it's been a year. Anyway, we again camped inside the gate at the Bellows Air Force Station. It's great because there is a 10pm noise restriction. What that basically means is you don't have people paying music at 2am and being rowdy - if they do someone with a gun will come and tell them to be quite.
We spent the day eating and hanging out at the beach and playing in the water. It was in the high 80's - kind of hot for this time of year.
Here's the annual picture of Gail and the Girls
- that's the Ko'olau mountain range in the background:
Here's the pictures of Gail with each of the girls. Kira is almost as tall a Gail now!
May Day is a big event in Hawaii. The schools all have a big event with Princesses and Princes for each of the islands as well as May day King and Queen. Klya was the Princess for Lana'i. Here's pictures of Kyla, Gail and Kyla doing the Hula.
The May Day Court did the waltz this year - Here's Kyla and Conner - she wasn't very happy with him as a partner:
We have a couple hundred other pictures so if you want to see more ask and I'll send you a CD full.......
